2024: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Nov 2024

Written by Noel Macnamara

The iconic opening line of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities perfectly sums up the whirlwind that was this year at CETC:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Through the ups and downs of 2024, the CETC team has celebrated some incredible milestones:

  • Innovative Training: We launched on-demand training packages tailored for foster carers, kinship carers, and residential carers.
  • Thought Leadership: Hosted an expert panel diving deep into therapeutic approaches in youth detention.
  • Widespread Impact: Delivered training to over 2,500 professionals and carers, empowering them to make a difference.

However, we also lost our CEO Dr Joe Tucci. I’ve met plenty of people with drive, plenty with vision, and plenty with compassion. But finding someone who embodies all three, not just for a moment but across a lifetime of work? That’s rare. And Joe Tucci was one of those rare, extraordinary people.

Joe’s drive came from his unshakable belief in a better world for children—a world where childhood was never betrayed but celebrated. He envisioned a kinder, safer, more loving world. And he didn’t just dream about it; he tirelessly fought for it. Whether it was pushing governments, challenging professionals, or waking adults across Australia to the reality that children matter, Joe never backed down. He demanded that their rights be respected, even when it wasn’t the easy or popular thing to do.

Joe didn’t just lead the team at ACF—he lit a fire in every one of them. He inspired people to step into their best selves, to share in his vision, and to work toward a world that truly sees and hears the pain of children—and, most importantly, acts to change it.

They say we live on in the memories of those who knew us. If that’s true, Joe’s legacy is unshakeable. He’ll live on in the countless hearts he touched and in the transformative work he began—a vision for a safer, more compassionate world that we are all now entrusted to carry forward.

It’s been a year of challenge and triumph, but the passion and dedication of our team have shone through it all!
