Private: When Yes means YES: Affirmative consent for foster carers

Course Outline

The When yes means YES Affirmative consent for foster carers course is designed to build carer’s skills and confidence to talk with young people within their care, developmentally aged 12-14 years, about non-sexual consent and affirmative sexual consent.

This on-demand course was developed by carers, young people, the Australian Childhood Foundation, the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care and OzChild, with support from the Victorian Government Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.

At the end of each online module, there are activities for carers to select and complete with the young person. Which activities a carer chooses will depend on the age, stage and development of the young person. Each activity has content alerts to help carers select the right activities, depending on the needs of the young person in their care. Activities include videos, quizzes and scenarios for discussion. These activities are in addition to the time estimates provided and can take as long or as little time as needed, and can be downloaded and completed at any time.

What will you learn?
There are six self-paced modules that form this online course, with each module taking approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

  1. Preparing for consent conversations
  2. Healthy & unhealthy relationships
  3. Understanding personal boundaries
  4. Consent – what it is, how we give it & get it
  5. Grooming, coercion & consent
