OUR TRAINING
Bringing up Great Kids: Parenting and mental health

Introduction

BUGK Parenting and Mental Health has been developed for families where mental health challenges are part of the parenting picture creating a range of unique experiences in parenting and raising children.

This experiential workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to facilitate a parent group for parents where there are mental health challenges in a safe, respectful and reflective space. This session will work through the variety of tailored materials and resources that have been specifically developed for this program.

Please note that the prerequisite for this training is successful completion of Bringing Up Great Kids: Facilitator training.
This workshop is not for parents or carers

BUGK Parenting and Mental Health acknowledges the philosophy of BUGK as a respectful, relational, reflective, kind, nurturing and most importantly responds to family strengths while acknowledging needs and experiences.

Parents living with mental illness challenges consistently say services and supports work best when they respond to the strengths, needs and experiences of the whole family

The BUGK Parenting and Mental Health program is set out through 6 sessions that can be adapted and used to suit the families/carers.

The voice of lived experience is present throughout the training and the program through the manual. This valuable voice supports facilitators to be able to “walk in the shoes of the families’ and gain a more personal and realistic idea of what is going on for families.

This workshop will provide professionals with the skills and knowledge to empower parents where there are mental health challenges to have confidence in their parenting family connections.
