This book contains stories about living in foster care – a resource designed for use with children new to, or currently living in, foster care.

This illustrated booklet shares the voices and experiences of children who have lived in foster care. Each story is honest — offering comfort, understanding and connection for children going through similar experiences.

Inside, children will find:

  • Stories from other kids in foster care
  • Gentle explanations of why children may be living away from family
  • Reassurance that their feelings—whatever they are—are valid and normal
  • Space to tell their own story and ask questions

Home Away from Home is designed to help children feel less alone, and to support conversations between children and the adults who care for them.
