Organised child sexual abuse is present in Australia—but remains largely unacknowledged in statutory responses, child protection systems, and therapeutic care. This webinar brings together research, practice, and policy insights to address these gaps.
Professor Michael Salter will present recent findings on:
- The nature of organised child sexual abuse in care environments
- How offenders operate through networks and exploit systemic blind spots
- The failure to clearly differentiate child sexual exploitation (CSE) from harmful sexual behaviours (HSB)
- The impact of trauma, disrupted attachment, and fragmented services on children's vulnerability
The session will then transition into a Q&A facilitated by Cyra Fernandes, exploring:
- How CSE and HSB are often confused and misunderstood
- What care providers and frontline workers need to notice and respond to
- How trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice must evolve in the context of organised harm
