OUR TRAINING
Trauma-transformative practice with children

Introduction

Trauma-transformative practice is the new paradigm which aims to transform the ways that professionals understand and work with children and young people. This workshop captures the key knowledge and dimensions described in The Handbook of Trauma Transformative Practice (Tucci, Mitchell, Porges, Tronik 2024). With intention and purpose, this knowledge base and its application transforms systems and communities around children.

Complex developmental trauma has a significant impact children’s brain, behaviour and relationships, and may result developmental delays and difficulties regulating emotions, adapting behaviour and being attuned to social exchanges. In turn, this can lead to a lack of safety and engagement in relational exchanges which support healing. The widespread impact of these experiences of trauma has profound implications for how carers, practitioners, programs, and systems support children.

This workshop introduces the trauma-transformative practice paradigm, outlining the constructs and dimensions described in The Handbook of Trauma Transformative Practice (Tucci, Mitchell, Porges, Tronik 2024).  The workshop contextualises this knowledge and paradigm into strategies for working with children. The workshop concludes with consideration of wellbeing, self-care and collective care.
