The impact of our partnership with Target Australia

Apr 2025

We’re incredibly grateful to Target Australia for its continued support in helping trauma-impacted children, young people, and families thrive.

From funding critical parenting programs to transforming our therapeutic counselling centres, this partnership has made a profound and lasting difference in the lives of children, families, and communities across the country.

What began in 2021 as a shared commitment to families has become one of the Foundation’s most impactful relationships. Together, we’ve raised over $1 million in direct support for vulnerable children and young people – funds for programs that help families heal, reconnect, and thrive.

Empowering parents, strengthening families

At the heart of the partnership has been support for our Bringing Up Great Kids (BUGK) program – a nationally recognised therapeutic parenting initiative designed to help caregivers build safe, secure and connected relationships with children. Through self-reflective parenting strategies and trauma-informed approaches, BUGK equips families with the tools to nurture recovery and resilience.

Target’s consistent and creative fundraising campaigns – most notably the sale of festive matching family pyjamas – have helped bring these vital resources into more homes across Australia. With $2 from every pair sold directly supporting BUGK, this campaign turned a beloved holiday tradition into a powerful force for change.

Over four years, thousands of families have accessed BUGK workshops, activities, and support resources that Target has made possible through its contributions. These moments of connection, learning and healing within the home are where prevention begins – and where lasting impact is made.

All That She Is

2022’s ‘All That She Is’ Mother’s Day campaign was a special moment during our partnership with Target. It was created to honour women’s diverse roles in children’s lives – whether as mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers, teachers or neighbours.

Through a limited-edition tote bag range designed in collaboration with the Foundation, the campaign raised funds and awareness for BUGK with messages like brave, nurturing, and unique – words inspired by women’s voices in our programs. Each tote bag carried more than belongings; it carried validation and visibility.

With the support of Foundation Patron Rosie Batty and the enthusiasm of Target customers nationwide, this campaign elevated community understanding of how deeply women shape a child’s experience of safety, identity and belonging.

Creating spaces for healing

While financial support is crucial, Target Australia’s partnership goes deeper – into the very areas where therapeutic healing begins. Across Australia, their team members actively volunteered their time and donated homewares, furniture and products to refurbish our counselling centres, creating environments that reflect warmth, care and comfort.

  • In Darwin, a three-day transformation turned clinical rooms into calm, child-friendly spaces, including sensory play items, art, and soothing colours.
  • In West Ulverstone, the Target Australia team refurbished our counselling centre with vibrant counselling rooms, a cosy waiting area, play areas, and a beautiful outdoor space, all supporting children recovering from family violence and trauma.
  • In Launceston, Target and Anko products helped transform our counselling centre into a nurturing space that supports therapeutic connection and encourages trust and emotional safety for children and families.

These makeovers were more than aesthetic – they were trauma-informed, therapeutic enhancements that acknowledged the psychological needs of the children who walk through our doors. As one young client shared, “Before, this place felt unloved – like me. Now it feels happy.”

The power of community partnerships

Throughout the partnership, the Target Australia team has shown what’s possible when corporate social responsibility is guided by authenticity, purpose and mutual respect.

Their impact extends from national-level initiatives to local engagement, with store teams nationwide participating in packing gift boxes, raising awareness, and supporting local Foundation hubs.

This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when brand values align with community needs. Together, we amplify the message that all children deserve to feel safe, seen and supported – not just in their homes but in their communities. The funds raised, programs delivered, and spaces transformed will keep shaping children’s futures for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful to the Target Australia team and their customers. This is what impact looks like. It’s children who rediscover laughter. It’s families reconnecting through compassion. It’s a counselling room filled with light, colour and care. It’s a legacy built together.
